Unfortunately there are times that school staff have disregarded food allergy policies and guidelines. In some cases not only can this introduce confusion and the potential for accidental exposures but sends a power message to the entire school community including the children both with and without food allergies.
SOLUTION:
Once school rules are established, communicate the importance and emphasize that breakdowns in procedures can compromise a child’s health. Discuss non-compliance with administration, attempt re-education and use disciplinary action when needed.
