At times families of students with food allergies may request accommodations that may be overly restrictive and not necessarily effective or evidence based.
SOLUTION: ATTEMPT FACT BASED RE-EDUCATION
In these cases it will be important to work with the families and attempt reeducation when needed. Driving home the importance of carrying out school wide food allergy management to keep the student safe and happy will be important. Sharing resources that are evidence based and reflect best practice guidance can be a powerful tool here. Also enlist the assistance of your school physician, local experts, and/or the student’s healthcare provider.
